Ad covers most of the screen

Ad covers most of the screen

What is ad covers most of the screen

Google wants ads to appear naturally on the screens without intruding on the navigation experience for users. An ad covering too much of the screen or viewable area is considered an Ad Covers Most of the Screen violation. Google thinks that publishers are forcing or manipulating users to click on the ads by showing a full-screen ad.

While few people may find these ads helpful sometimes, the ads cannot be relevant every time. Hence most users end up clicking on the Remove Ads option that alerts Google immediately.

What are the exceptions

  • Interstitial ads: Interstitial ads appear while users navigate between two interfaces without looking unnatural which leads to accidental clicks. These ads, even if they cover the content for a while, would not be considered as Ad Covers Most of the Screen Violation.

  • App open ads: The App open format is designed to help publishers monetize the ads by showing these on the app load screens. Thus, these are not considered as “Ad Covers Most of the Screen” Violation.

What are its consequences

Google allows you to modify the ads and submit review requests again. However, It's important to address this violation duly, as repeated violations cause ad-serving restrictions and sometimes lead to account suspension. To maintain ad compliance, authenticate the campaign regularly and ensure that the ads abide by Google's Advertising policies.

How to avoid it

Google provides you with reasons behind the violation in case of Ad Covers Most of the Screen violations detected in your ads. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this violation:

  • Review Google's ad policies: Make sure that your website complies with all of Google AdMob/ AdSense policies, including the policies on ad placement and ad size.
  • Reduce ad size: Make sure the ad is not bigger than the content on your website. You can adjust the ad's size by modifying the width and height parameters as per Google’s policies.
  • Reposition the ad: Try repositioning the ad to a different location on the page, so it doesn't take up as much screen.
  • Use smaller ads: Instead of using a single large ad, consider using multiple smaller ads that take up less space. This can improve the user experience and eliminate the chances of violations.
  • Wait for a review feedback: Once you make modifications to resolve the violation, submit your ads for review. Google will then review and let you know if the issue has been resolved.
